Fr. Bob or "Doc" as he was better known by his fellow Glenmarians passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, he was 94 years old.
Bob entered into Glenmary's formation program after serving as a medic in WWII where he been given his nickname. Doc professed his First Oath with Glenmary on May 31, 1951. He was ordained 4 years later on May 19, 1955.After his ordination, Doc was assigned to the missions and never looked back. During his 65 years as a Glenmarian, he was always out in the missions. His missions assignments included; Statesboro, GA where he served as associate pastor and then pastor. After Georgia, Doc served as as mission pastor in Gate City, VA, New Albany, MS, Murphy, NC, Big Stone Gap, VA, and St. Paul VA. Doc's final mission assignment before becoming a senior member and later moving to Glenmary Headquarters was also his longest assignment. From 1989-1998 he served as mission pastor in in Glenmary's mission in Clintwood, VA and remained there until 2006 where he served as sacramental minister. His lifelong concern for the people of Appalachia led him to get involved with the Catholic Committee of Appalachia and serve on the Glenmary Commission on Justice.
