In the Easter Sunday Gospel reading, Mary of Magdala told Simon Peter that the tomb was empty. Peter still felt he had to go and see for himself. Listening to this story reminded me of an earlier passage in John's Gospel. Jesus was asked by two of John the Baptist's disciples, “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” At some point in discerning our vocation we are like Peter or the disciples. That is, we recognize an inner desire that is drawing us to seek or be near to Jesus. Listen, can you hear Jesus inviting us closer?
Maybe the invitation is coming through someone we know. Peter felt moved to go to the tomb and look for Jesus after hearing Mary of Magdala's testimony. In the other Scripture passage, the disciples questioning Jesus were inspired by the testimony of John the Baptist. God might be speaking to you through the testimony of people who are around you. Has someone told you that you might make a good priest? Has someone told you that you could be a religious brother? Be open, pray about it and listen. Can you recognize God's invitation coming through the people who are around you?
