Fr. Miguel Pajares |
|
Fr. Manuel García Viejo |
As missioners we have a special calling to dedicate ourselves completely to those we serve. In our professing of the Glenmary Oath, we promise "to dedicate myself for my whole life to the missionary apostolate." The Glenmary Constitution states; "Our life and service is intended to be a sign to all that the values of Christ’s kingdom are real and superior to all merely earthly considerations." From what I have read about Fr. Miguel Pajares and Fr. Manuel García Viejo they are true examples of this missionary spirit. They dedicated themselves to the medical mission efforts in Sierra Leone and Liberia respectively. They both gave themselves to serving the People of God and in doing so they suffered the same fate as those they were serving and died due to the current Ebola epidemic.
Sts. Cosmas and Damian, pray for them.
