Success stories are always good to find and wonderful to share. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit one of Glenmary's former missions in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Glenmary missioners, including
Rev. Joe Dean, served and helped to nurture the community in Titus County.
St Michael Catholic Church is now one of the largest parishes in the
Diocese of Tyler Texas. Glenmary's founder, Rev. William H. Bishop, said of our missionary efforts "The society would seek limited, not perpetual, tenure of mission areas..." "…Then, when the parish is able to stand on its own, it is returned to the bishop and the Home Missioner moves on to another no priest area."
