Rev. William Howard Bishop |
Today marks the 59th anniversary of the death of Rev. William Howard Bishop, founder of the Home Missioners of America (aka Glenmary). Throughout his life, Fr. Bishop had a vision for and a passion to serve the missions in the United States. By creating his now famous map of No Priest Land USA he demonstrated the tremendous need for missioners to serve in the rural and neglected areas of this country. The Glenmary Research Center's new map of the Major Religious Families shows that Fr. Bishop's call to mission is still relevant today. The words he penned nearly 70 years ago are true today: "There was never a time when missionary activity was more needed in our beloved land than it is today."
