This month Glenmary Home Missioners will celebrate our 75th anniversary, 1939-2014. Yet our founder, Fr. William Howard Bishop, actually arrived in Cincinnati to begin this historical work two years earlier in 1937. When Fr. Bishop arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio he was assigned by the Most Reverend Archbishop McNicholas as administrator of St. Martin's Church in Brown County, Ohio.
Fr. Bishop's diary on the day he arrived simply reads:
"LANDED AT ST. MARTIN TO BEGIN WORK OF FOUNDING HOME MISSION SOCIETY."
